Chocolate Chip Cookies

I once watched an episode of Alton Brown on the Food Network where he took the same recipe for chocolate chip cookies and made like seven different kinds of cookies. He used the same recipe for each, just switched soft butter for melted butter, and then margarine. Then he changed the baking soda to baking powder with each butter and margarine. It was impressive! He did all this to show how one ingredient can completely change a cookie into something different. This is ONE way I like my chocolate chip cookies. This is my Grandma's dough recipe for raisin filled cookies, it works great for chocolate chip cookies too. You will like these if you like your cookies soft and almost cake like.

2 cups soft butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 cups white sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 Tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon salt
6 1/2 cups all purpose flour
3 cups chocolate chips
Cream the butter and sugars.

Add the eggs, vanilla, baking soda, salt and milk. Cream together.

Mix in the flour and then the chocolate chips. It's a pretty heavy dough so I had to switch to the dough hook I use for bread.

Scoop onto cookie sheets and bake at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes.

Yes, this is a big recipe. I sometimes freeze the balls of dough and bake them later. It comes in handy when you are in a hurry, or need a quick treat. Don't forget to let it thaw before baking!
